The Wells County Chamber of Commerce, alongside its Chamber Ambassadors, proudly celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Heavenly Cup, located at 303 S. Market Street in Bluffton. The new faith-centered beverage shop is dedicated to serving refreshing specialty drinks while creating meaningful opportunities for community connection, encouragement, and fellowship.
Owned by Austin Shepherd and his wife, Emily Shepherd, The Heavenly Cup was born from a desire to combine entrepreneurship, hospitality, and a mission rooted in faith. The shop offers specialty dirty sodas, flavored beverages, and community gathering opportunities in a welcoming atmosphere designed to make every guest feel at home.
During the ceremony, Austin shared the deep personal journey that led to the creation of The Heavenly Cup. After overcoming addiction and finding sobriety through his faith, he felt called to create something that would positively impact the community. “I am who I am because of Jesus,” Austin said. “Everything we do here is built on that foundation. This is more than a business to us—it’s a ministry. We want people to walk through these doors and feel peace, feel welcomed, and know they are loved.”
Emily explained that the original concept began while she was attending Ball State University, where specialty soda shops were popular. She frequently recreated similar drinks at home and envisioned bringing the concept to a smaller community. What started as plans for a mobile soda trailer quickly evolved into a storefront opportunity when the couple was introduced to the location through community connections.
“We originally planned to operate from a truck and do events,” Emily said. “Then this space became available, and everything seemed to fall into place. Every step of the process happened much faster than we expected, but we truly believe God opened every door along the way.”
The shop’s name, The Heavenly Cup, reflects both its mission and inspiration, with every detail intentionally centered around faith and encouragement. Each beverage on the menu features a Bible-inspired name paired with a corresponding scripture reference, reinforcing the shop’s spiritual foundation in a tangible way for customers. The concept is rooted in Psalm 23:5, which reads, “My cup overflows,” a verse that serves as the guiding theme of the ministry and the heartbeat of the business.
“When we're preparing drinks, we're praying that people leave with more than just something good to drink,” Austin explained. “Our hope is that they leave encouraged, refreshed, and overflowing with peace, joy, and hope.”
Building on that mission, the Shepherds also envision The Heavenly Cup becoming more than a beverage shop, but a true gathering place for the community. The space is designed to host Bible studies, fellowship groups, community events, and meaningful conversations that bring people together in a welcoming and supportive environment. The business has already begun opening its doors for faith-based gatherings and plans to continue expanding those opportunities as it grows.
Looking ahead, the couple remains focused on expanding The Heavenly Cup concept while staying grounded in its original purpose of serving people and sharing their faith. “It’s not about growing financially,” Emily said. “The greatest blessing is the people we meet and the lives we get to be a small part of. We want this to be a place where people feel welcomed, encouraged, and connected.”
The business also provides mobile beverage services for weddings, graduation parties, and community events, allowing The Heavenly Cup to serve beyond its storefront location. Austin noted that the goal is to continue creating opportunities for people to gather, build relationships, and experience a sense of community wherever The Heavenly Cup goes.
