Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassadors recently joined the Closet Concepts family and staff, along with Ossian town officials, to celebrate the groundbreaking for the company’s new manufacturing facility at 1875 Baker Drive in Ossian.
The new 14,000-square-foot facility marks an exciting next step in the company’s continued growth, providing much-needed space for its expanding manufacturing operations. The investment will allow Closet Concepts to increase production capacity, better accommodate customer demand, and continue serving customers throughout Indiana.
Founded by the Ross family in 1987, Closet Concepts, Inc. has grown from a family business into a custom storage solutions provider serving homeowners and builders throughout the Indianapolis and Fort Wayne areas. For nearly four decades, the company has focused on creating personalized storage solutions that combine quality craftsmanship, functionality, and thoughtful design.
Its offerings include custom closets, garage storage systems, pantries, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and other organization solutions. A key part of the company’s approach is its ability to manufacture its own products, giving the team greater control over production while allowing them to customize designs and meet the specific needs of homeowners and builders.
That commitment to craftsmanship and customization has continued under the leadership of owners John Ross and Joe Ross, who grew up working in the family business before pursuing college degrees and professional opportunities elsewhere. Both eventually returned to the company, helping guide its expansion and transition into in-house manufacturing. Today, family involvement remains central to the business, with the next generation also contributing to its continued growth.
“We both grew up in the business,” John shared while reflecting on the company’s history. “It’s a really fun family business that has grown to the point where we need to have this facility here in Ossian.”
As the business continued to expand, so did its need for manufacturing space. After outgrowing its existing facility in New Haven, Closet Concepts spent approximately two years exploring options for expansion before determining that Ossian would be the right fit. The location offers convenient access for shipping and an opportunity to draw employees from surrounding communities.
The new building will nearly double the company’s current manufacturing space, replacing its approximately 6,000-square-foot operation with a modern 14,000-square-foot facility. The team plans to transition its existing equipment and employees to the new location, which will also supply materials for the company’s Indianapolis operation.
The additional space comes at an important time, as demand for Closet Concepts’ products continues to grow. The company currently ships approximately 120,000 to 150,000 pounds of material each month from its manufacturing operation. With updated equipment, improved infrastructure, and room to expand, the new facility will help the company keep pace with that demand while positioning it for future growth.
The new facility represents an exciting milestone for Closet Concepts and an opportunity for continued growth in Ossian. With support from local leaders and community partners, the company is preparing for its next chapter in Wells County. Jeff Kemper, Ossian Town Council Member, expressed his enthusiasm during the groundbreaking celebration, saying, “We’re really excited to watch your company grow here and even see where your business goes from here on out.”
