The Wells County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors recently had the pleasure of surprising Cory and Allison Sprunger and their staff of Sprunger & Sprunger, Attorneys at Law, with the honor of being named February Member of the Month—a recognition that reflects both professional excellence and a deep commitment to the communities they serve.
What began as a plan to return home after law school has grown into a thriving regional law firm rooted in small-town values. Twelve years ago, Cory and Allison moved back to Indiana after attending Pepperdine University School of Law in California, where they met. Cory, originally from Berne, and Allison, a California native, shared a desire to use their legal training to make a meaningful impact. That shared vision became the foundation for Sprunger & Sprunger.
With that vision in place, the couple took their first practical steps toward building the firm. It started modestly, with Cory opening an office in Berne while Allison worked at the Fort Wayne prosecutor’s office. Within a year, she joined the practice, and together they began building what would become a multi-location firm. Today, Sprunger & Sprunger includes 11 attorneys and offices in Bluffton, Berne, Portland, Waynedale, Angola, Pendleton, and surrounding communities.
As the firm expanded, so did its investment in the places it serves. Their Bluffton office at 105 N. Main Street reflects that commitment to the community. The building—formerly home to STAR Insurance—was fully renovated, taken down to the studs, and reimagined with open, welcoming spaces and modern conference areas. The project not only created a comfortable environment for clients but also contributed to the vibrancy of downtown Bluffton.
That growth, however, wasn’t originally part of Cory’s plan. He reflects that his career path evolved in unexpected ways. “I really didn’t want to be a lawyer—I just wanted to go into public service,” he shared. “But I’m a builder by nature. That’s just what I do. I like to build things.” Over time, that passion for building shifted toward creating a firm that could meet real needs in small towns.
That mindset naturally shaped where and how the firm would grow. Rather than concentrating in large cities, the Sprungers intentionally focused on rural communities where access to legal services can be limited. Their team now provides a wide range of services, including family law, estate planning, personal injury, criminal defense, bankruptcy, debt collection, immigration law, and Medicaid planning. Many of these are specialized areas that small-town firms often cannot support on their own.
This breadth of services is possible because of the firm’s multi-office footprint, allowing Sprunger & Sprunger to pair personalized service with broad legal capabilities. As Cory explained, “Even though we’re a small-town firm, our larger footprint allows us to handle almost everything at this point. You’re getting that small-town feel, but you’re getting more resources and a bigger footprint behind it.” Yet despite continued expansion, the firm’s approach remains deeply personal. Cory is quick to emphasize that relationships come first: “It’s all about the people. We’ve got good ones, so let’s keep it that way.” That people-first mindset carries through in how the firm serves clients, mentors attorneys, and invests in the communities they call home.
