The Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassadors are pleased to recognize LS Construction as the August Member of the Month. Owned by Leander and Kassie Schwartz, LS Construction—also known as Barn Builders by LS Construction LLC—is a family-owned business located in Bluffton. Since 2002, the company has built a strong reputation across Northeast Indiana for specializing in pole barns, stud-frame barns, and the increasingly popular barndominiums.

With a focus on premium materials and high-quality craftsmanship, LS Construction offers complete design-to-finish services, including a 3D design tool called the Visualizer Maestro, which allows clients to customize and preview their dream structure before construction begins. Whether it’s a residential barndominium or a traditional barn, their projects are known for their durability, detail, and efficiency. Most barn builds are completed in just two weeks, while barndominiums typically take about four months. With more than 30 crew members working on jobs each day, the team is well-equipped to deliver consistent results.

During the surprise recognition visit, Chamber staff, Ambassadors, and Leander’s family quietly entered a job site without him noticing—until it was too late. “It was perfect. I was shocked—I wasn’t expecting anything at all,” said Leander. “I’m very, very thankful for the support of the community that allows us to excel and do what we do. Without that, none of this would be possible.”

The visit also offered a glimpse into the couple’s current project: renovating a downtown Bluffton building that Kassie will use for her new shop. “Leander surprised me again with this building,” Kassie said. “We’re fixing it from the basement up. I’ll be running my shop here, and we’re even planning to rent out a small space—maybe for a salon someday.” Leander described the renovations, which include black-painted ceilings, stonework on the exterior, and white board and batten siding with black trim. “She knows what she wants, so I said, let’s just do whatever you want,” he added.

Leander has been in construction for 27 years, having started working with his father. “I love the transformation—taking something old and making it look cool again,” he said. While the business has evolved over the years, their specialty remains barn, pole barn, or barndominium projects. In addition, Leander often works on remodeling buildings they own, flipping or renting out properties, including Airbnbs and long-term rentals. “Once one’s done, the next one is waiting,” he said.

Rooted deeply in the community, Leander and Kassie emphasized that the support they’ve received in Wells County has been instrumental to their growth. “We came to Wells County and slowly started getting to know people—we love it here. This community means the world to us.”
